What is the best way to get in touch to order?

The best way to contact us for an order is by submitting an enquiry on our website or by email to rachel@bluebirdsweets.com.au Don’t forget to include what you are after, the date you require it for & how many are required.

How far in advance do I need to place an order?

The sooner the better, as we have limited availability! Cakes & custom sweets need to be ordered at least 2 weeks in advance. High Teas need to be booked at least 4 weeks in advance. We sometimes have last minute availability for cupcakes & macarons only.

When is my order confirmed?

Your order is only confirmed once a deposit is paid & we have confirmed in email or text that we have received the deposit. Until then the order is a quote only. We do not bake custom orders until we have a deposit paid.

When is my order finalised?

Changes can not be made to orders less than 7 days prior. We understand that sometimes RSVPs can change, so for cupcakes & macarons up to 48 hours prior to pick-up it MAY be possible to increase the quantity required. Please note this is not available with cakes & we are not able to decrease the quantity required after a deposit has been paid.

Do you offer discounts for bulk orders?

Blue Bird Sweets prides ourselves in quality, freshly made treats served across the Illawarra or custom made for your event. We have priced our products competitively taking into account the quality ingredients we use – including free-range eggs, quality bakers flour, gluten-free icing mixture, quality almond meal, coverture chocolate & Belgian cocoa powder.We strive to offer all of our customers the best price possible so we do not do discounts on bulk orders.

Pick-up & storage

Where is pick-up from?

Pick up is from our studio in Unanderra via prior arrangement – we do not have a shopfront.

How should I transport my sweets?

Please make sure you have ample space to transport your sweets prior to pick up. Cakes & cupcakes require a stable, flat surface, such as the passenger footrest in the car. It is usually best to have a passenger with you to hold cakes & cupcakes stable in the case of corners/sudden stopping.

Do you deliver?

Yes we can deliver, subject to availability. Delivery across the Illawarra (Helensburgh-Shellharbour) is $10-$20 depending on location. Outside this area is extra depending on the location & availability & min order qtys. We do not deliver on Sunday.

How should I store my sweets until my event?

Ideally you should pick your sweets no earlier than 24 hours prior to the event. Floral cakes can only be picked up the morning of or delivered the day of the event to preserve the quality of the flowers.

Cake – ideally store in the fridge for a short period of time (no more than 4 hours).

Cupcakes – ideally store at cool room temp in the box. Do not store or transport in direct sunlight as buttercream does melt very quickly. To keep cupcakes for more than 24 hours we recommend transferring to an air-tight container and keeping at room temp – do not store in the fridge as they will dry out.

Macarons – macarons can be kept at room temp or on hot days in the fridge. If storing in the fridge take them out approx 1-2 hours prior to your event to give them a nice chewy texture.

Other sweets – we will advise you on a case by case basis. Please follow our storage instructions as we do not take responsibility for any sweets stored incorrectly.

Food Allergies

Are any of your sweets nut-free?

We do not usually use peanuts directly in our cupcakes or macarons however many ingredients we use may contain ‘traces’ of nuts. If you are anaphylaxic to nuts there are other bakers who bake from nut-free kitchens in the Illawarra. We make macarons & use nutella in our kitchen so there may be traces of almond meal in products.

Can you make egg or dairy or gluten free cupcakes?

We can make egg free, dairy free, gluten free or vegan cupcakes! But please note if you are severely allergic all of these things are used regularly in our kitchen so we cannot guarantee 100% free of the product.

Are your macarons gluten free?

Yes 90% of our macaron flavours are gluten free, the exception being ones with biscuit/cake flavours (eg cookies & cream, or red velvet). If you require them to be all gluten free please specify this in your order. We can also make dairy free by request. Sorry macarons can not be made egg & nut free.


What is the minimum time-frame required for ordering cakes?

We require at least 2 weeks notice for cake orders. Exceptions are at the discretion of Blue Bird Sweets and are not guaranteed until deposit is paid.

How many people do your cakes serve?

Our cake sizes vary depending on how many people you wish to feed your cake to. In order for us to quote accurately please include the no of people you would like to serve & if dessert will be served in addition at your event.

What prices do your cakes start from?

Our cake prices vary depending on the amount of work & ingredients used in every cake. Our signature cakes range, based off our market cupcake flavours, start at $60 for a 2-layer 6″ cake to serve 10-15 people, or $100 for a 3-layer cake to serve 20-30 people. This does not include any customisation, including decorative accents, multiple flavours, flowers, cake toppers etc.

What should I include when I email a cake enquiry?

Please make sure all cake enquiries include the following – no. of people to feed, if it is dessert or in conjunction to a 3 course meal, date, location (if requesting delivery), date for pick up, wedding theme to match, flavours interested in, and any pictures of inspiration. This will ensure we get you as accurate a quote as possible.
